Delicious, fair and organic

Coffee sales are at a record level of around 167 liters per capita and "whole beans" are the consumers' favorite. Whether at home or away from home, they value fresh preparation and a full aroma. But how much value is placed on sustainability? The ever-increasing demand can also have negative consequences, as fair working conditions and environmentally friendly processes cannot be taken for granted when growing the coffee fruit.

In the latest episode of the Green Product Briefing (GPB), LifeVerde's sustainability podcast, Luisa Bremer talks to our coffee expert and master barista Joachim Kühne about why sustainable coffee cultivation is so important, how you can recognize sustainably produced coffee, why it's worth choosing a Fairtrade or organic product and what our special Café Intención SELECCIÓN country coffees - SELECCIÓN PERU and SELECCIÓN HONDURAS - have to do with it.

LifeVERDE.de is the green online magazine for German-speaking countries

LifeVerde is an online magazine on the subject of sustainability that provides daily information on providers of green products and services. It reports on topics such as regional cultivation, sustainable fashion, natural cosmetics and renewable energies.

In order to offer green companies a platform on the Internet, they are given the opportunity to present their commitment to the environment and society on the portal, because for LifeVerde this is where the consumption of tomorrow begins. The portfolio also includes the GPB podcast and a kind of green business directory where interested parties can find out about regional and sustainable companies.

LifeVerde wants to show consumers the benefits of a green lifestyle with lots of tips and suggestions/examples and thus encourage sustainable consumption. The aim is to help shape the green transition. Because this vision is in line with our philosophy, we are delighted to have realized an editorial cooperation with Lifeverde 's sustainability podcast.

THE FAIRTRADE PIONEER

We at J.J. Darboven think so: If you want to enjoy high-quality coffee, you should also think about the quality of life of the coffee growers at the origin.

With this in mind, we established the first fair trade coffee in German supermarkets in 1993. Since 2004, under the name Café Intención we are not only a Fairtrade pioneer brand, but also the market leader in the organic and Fairtrade coffee segment in German retail. And demand is growing steadily. With every cup of coffee from our extensive range - the majority of our varieties have an organic label - you are not only doing something good for your customers, you are also supporting our coffee farmers and social projects in the countries of origin.

In total, the sale of our Fairtrade products generated over €1.7 million for the origin. The smallholder cooperatives and employees on plantations decide independently and collectively which projects the Fairtrade premium is invested in, such as investments in education and healthcare, in local infrastructure and in measures to improve agricultural cultivation methods and quality assurance.
